FRITZ GUI

THANKS

Read :

I will try to show you the fastest way.

-First You have to install to download wb2uci from Odd Gunnar Malin   click here

- Claude Dubois  did a fantastic job and already set up 300 wb2uci files ready to use .

  1.  click here to go to fou numerique/systeme du Suisse

  2. Select & Download wbconf.zip

  3.  If you didn't have it, Download the winboard engine that you want to install

  • We will take exemple with Scorpio 1.8 from Daniel Shawul

  • You could install your winboard engine where you want , but the easy way is to create a folder to put all winboard folders/files togheter . It will make easier to find them like the example below.

  • or if you only use Fritz GUI , you could put all winboard engine under ..../chessbase/engines/winboard/scorpio_18

THANKS

  1. Unzip wbconf.zip  from C. Dubois that you download from

  2. Enter in the folder wb2uci_conf

  3. Select scorpio files  under wb2uci_conf folder

  4. Once you select scorpio file folder you will see (below)

  5. Then select and copy the 2 files (scorpio.init and wb2uci.eng)

  6. Now go to the folder where you put the scorpio winboard engine and paste like below

THANKS

--->  open your wb2uci.eng with a notepad or another software

1- You are a novice like me and you like the easy way

common to almost all wb2uci.eng set up

 [ENGINE]
Name=
Author=
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=EngineName.exe

just follow these sample and It should work

ex : with Jonny 2.83

[ENGINE]
Name=Jonny 2.83 W2U
Author=Johannes Zwanger, Allemagne
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=Jonny283.exe

ex : Beo Wulf  2.4

[ENGINE]
Name=BeoWulf 2.4 W2U
Author=Colin Frayn, England and Dann Corbit, USA
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=Beowulf.exe

Very easy to do and should work with almost all winboard  engine :D

2-Now you are a chess engine expert and you want to add some option :

You know the engine and his option :

ex : Crafty 20.14  (set up by Claude dubois ??)

[ENGINE]
Name=Crafty 20.14 BH W2U
Author=Robert Hyatt, USA
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=crafty.exe
InitString=resign 0
HashCommand=hash %iM
WhiteScore=true
OwnBook=true
InitTime=5
Visible=Ponder,Hash,Extras,Logfile,Computer

[EXTRAS]
NalimovPath=tbpath|string|c:\tbs   put the path where the nalimov TB are ...
NalimovCache=cache %iM|spin|4|1|32

ex: Thor's Hammer 2.28

[ENGINE]
Name=Thor's Hammer 2.28 W2U
Author=Toma Roncevic, Croatia
Filename=Wb2Uci.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=thorsHammer22.exe
OwnBook=true
Ponder=false
LevelExtend=Strict
ShowThinkingMove=true
WhiteScore=true
Visible=Ponder,Hash,ShowThinkingMove,Logfile,Extras

[EXTRAS]

More difficult to do, but if you add some option the chess engine could play better :D

THANKS

- It looks difficult for the first time, but you will used to ...  It almost always the same steps

- Always try to make everything more easy/simple for yourself.

- There are over 170 free winboard engines out there, this is your reward if you could make them play under this GUI against your uci engine .
